Charles Phillip Couch
Charles Phillip “Phil” Couch was born in Atlanta, GA March 14, 1948. He died on January 17, 2021 after contracting Covid.
He is survived by wife of 53 years, Susan Odessa Haynie, a daughter Stacy Couch Eberhart and son in law Stephen Eberhart of Wedowee, AL, a sister Alice Couch Hiltibrand of Columbus GA; Brothers and sisters in law John and Mindy Durrance of Lilburn, GA and Pierce and Sharon Haynie of Stockbridge, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving is his Dog Chaz and Grand-dog Duke that he said “gave him great joy”.
He retired from Delta in 2002 after over 34 years. He worked for almost 20 years on the ramp and then transferred to crew scheduling until retirement.
After retiring from Delta, he worked as charter coordinator at Delta Global Services (DGS) where he traveled the world with his ‘work wives’ and often with his friend Walter. In fact, if not for Covid, Walter and Phil would still be running charters!
Phil’s last charter flight was March 13, 2020 which was exactly 53 years from his initial Delta hire date.
Phil and his wife Susan traveled to many places throughout the years. Their favorite trips were to the Galapagos Islands, Ireland and Costa Rica.
He enjoyed brewing homebrew beer with his son in law Steve. He loved going to Lake Wedowee and telling you how you should fish (while not fishing himself). He enjoyed cruising on his pontoon boat listening to rock music and drinking a cold one.
He especially loved walking every day with his Dog Chaz “the son I never had”.
Phil enjoyed socializing, playing trivia, and drinking beers at local taverns with friends (at least until Covid showed up). He enjoyed watching movies from Star Wars, Marvel Comics, Star Trek, and anything space related or with “shit blowing up”. Phil never met a stranger. You never had to guess where he stood in any political or religious conversations. Those blindly walking into these conversations were quickly impressed with Phil’s chops to back up his argument.
Phil also never hesitated to help a friend. Often his friends counted on him to fix their computers or smartphones. He could always be counted on for advice about cars, electronics, and anything techie that made life more convenient. He was especially caring of others. He always remembered to ask about family members, especially if they were ill.
He believed in quality of life and lived his to the fullest!
