C. Neil Welsch, 81, of Atlanta, GA passed away December 23, 2010. Mr. Welsch was born January 29, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Alvin Benjamin Welsch and Mary Hamilton Welsch. He attended Evansville College before transferring to Georgia Tech where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr. Welsch graduated from Georgia Tech in 1953 and was a lifelong supporter of the Yellow Jackets.
Mr. Welsch met his true love, Delores Tuck, while at Tech and they were married on March 14, 1953. He served in the United States Army in Austria from 1947 to 1948, and again in Korea from 1953 to 1955 as a Commander of a Combat Engineering Company. Upon his return, Mr. Welsch helped form the skyline in and around Atlanta while working as a general contractor and as President of H.W. Ivey Construction Company and during his association with B.L.I. Construction Company. He participated in the construction of over 40 mid-rise office buildings; multiple apartment buildings, shopping centers and parking facilities; many government buildings including the U.S. Penitentiary; a number of high schools; and the Science Center at the University of Georgia including the Biology, Chemistry, and Animal Science buildings.
Mr. Welsch was a longtime member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for over 40 years. He served as Chairman of the Deacons and was awarded the Bruce Batho Award and Deacon Emeritus in recognition of his dedication and service. He loved the Lord and gave testimony as to how the Lord had responded to his prayers and had led, developed, and guided his life.
The family observed: “Mr. Welsch was quiet by nature and always had a friendly and good word for others. His greatest joy came from being with his family. His sense of humor and example of a simple life lived joyfully will remain with us. He lived a long and happy life and now lives in the warmth of God’s eternal love.”
He is survived by the love of his life, Delores Tuck Welsch; a daughter, Donita Newton and her children John, Sam, Bess and her husband Simon Goodhead; a son, C. Neil Welsch Jr. and his wife, Pam and their children Carolyn, Mary, and Laura; a daughter, Laurie Jones and her husband Bruce and their children Bobby, Patrick and Kate; a great-grandchild, Grayson; and a sister Nancy Welsch Johnson and her children and grandchildren.

Self and Reverend Bobby Morrow will be officiating. The family will receive friends in the Heritage Room of Wieuca Road Baptist Church one hour before the service. Interment will be at a later date.
