Charles Morgan Millirons
Charles Morgan Millirons of Carrollton,
GA , 83, left his earthly family to join
his heavenly family on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was born on September 12, 1929 in East Point, GA to William and Rebecca Millirons of Millirons’ Garage.
He served 20 years in the US Air Force
from 1948 to 1968 gaining rank of Chief
Master Sergeant. His family accompanied
him to Japan 1957-1960 where he worked
as a flight engineer B-57 with the 3rd Bomb Wing . In his free time, he climbed Mt. Fuji, coached Pop Warner football, and Little
League baseball. Some of his more
exciting USAF career accomplishments as a mechanical and electronics engineer in
Research and Development were: Working
on the original UAV Drones’ B-17 at
Eglin AFB l950-57; Known as a “Steely-Eyed Missileman”, he was responsible for the
inertial guidance system of the Atlas
Missiles for the NASA Mercury manned-space program 1960-64; Worked with the
original 7 Mercury astronauts at Cape
Canaveral; Earned the Master Missileman
Badge only 1 of 3 issued in the
USAF for participating in 42 launches of
Atlas Missiles; Responsible for Minuteman
ICBM silos on SAC bases 1965-68.
After his retirement from the Air Force, he continued to use his mathematical, engineering, and electronics skills as a computer engineer with Telex Corp. in the southeast area until his second retirement in 1988 as the regional service manager. He was preceded in death by wife and mother to his sons, Josie, second wife, Mary, siblings; Vivian, William, Jr., Virginia, Earl, Vedia. He is survived by his wife, Nettie; sister, Juanita; sons, Michael Jean, Chuck Laurell and Dan; grandchildren; Eric and Lindsay; stepchildren; Larry Steed Venita and Beverly Kirk Dennis; step grandchildren; Alyssa, Derick, Lorrie, Eric, Adam, Erin, Rebekah and Anna and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was known for his loving, generous, caring, happy, optimistic, family-oriented spirit. He enjoyed life to the fullest, always had a smile for those he met, and was an inspiration to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tanner Medical Foundation for the Cancer Care Transportation Fund in Carrollton, GA. Services will be graveside 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Westview Cemetery in southwest Atlanta with Reverend Jeff Pate officiating.
