Betsy Fondren King
Betsy Fondren King, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 24, 2022. She was 86 years old.
Born in Greenwood, MS on June 28, 1935, to Estel and Dovey Fondren. After moving to Memphis, Tn in 1954, she met and married Charles W King. Together for 61 years, they raised four children in Memphis before moving to Atlanta in 1972. A lifelong lover of collecting books has left us with a library of knowledge covering European history, the arts and world travel. Her love of history ruled her world, with her thousands of books at her fingertips and a great memory for dates, she could have been a history professor. Could play classical guitar and taught herself French and German. As children we loved listening to her reel to reel music always playing throughout the house, Harry Belafonte, Sam Cooke and Henry Mancini were her favorites. She had many, many beloved friends, adored and cherished all her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Leaving behind, her sister Patricia Ramsey and nephew Phillip. Her loving children, Marcia King, Janie Mallen(Peter J. Mallen, deceased),Charles W. King Jr.(Virginia) and Betsy Anne Fondren Browning(Charles Kibler Browning, deceased). Grandchildren, Stephanie Mallen, Jonathan and Amy Mallen, Amanda Mallen, Matthew Mallen, Alexandra King and Charles W, King III. Great grandson Peter Louis Landau, son of Stephanie Mallen and Josh Landau.
Predeceased by her husband Charles W. King and great grandson Atlas James Mallen.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
