Bernice Collard Hill

Bernice Collard Hill, 97, of Sarasota, Fl and Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2016. Bernice was born Aug. 19, 1918 in Banner, AR. She and her 5 older brothers grew up on a small farm in rural Arkansas. She later moved to Atlanta and took a job with a dept store where she caught the eye of the store’s district manager. After she married Robert W Hill on Dec. 26, 1947, they moved to Manhasset, Long Island and raised their family .She worked many years at the local school district in Manhasset. After retiring to Sarasota, Bernice worked many more years with the PGA. She was a long time member of the Church of the Palms in Sarasota. She was a fabulous cook, an avid reader and recently took up quilting, producing several memorable quilts for family and friends. Her husband predeceased her by many years. Bernice is survived by a son, Robert W Hill, Jr and his wife Winn, and a daughter Susan Soderblom and her husband James . She leaves 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Bernice will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Sarasota Memorial Park.
