Avis S. Malone

Avis Scarborough Malone died peacefully at home on December 7, 2015 in Decatur, Georgia at the age of 97. Avis is survived by her son Harry Kenwood Malone, Jr. and his wife, Bonnaleta Malone of Tucker, GA, granddaughter Pamela Malone of Atlanta, GA, grandson Mark Malone and his wife Estelle Malone of Mooresville, NC, two great-grandsons, Cpl. Kyle Malone USMC and his wife, Cpl. Keisha Malone NZDF of Okinawa, Japan and Christian Malone of Mooresville, NC and one great-great-granddaughter, Emily Staunton of NZ. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry K. Malone, Sr. Avis was born on March 16, 1919 in Albany, Georgia, where she met Harry, & was employed by the First National Bank of Albany and retired from C&S National Bank in Atlanta now Bank of America. Avis was a long-time member of North Decatur United Methodist Church and was an active member of her community. One of Avis and Harry’s favorite ministries was delivering Meals on Wheels for many years. All that knew Avis would agree that she was the perfect blend of a Gracious Southern Lady and a Grand Steel Magnolia. Her last thoughts, as always, were of others rather than herself, when she insisted she had to get better, as she still had good deeds to accomplish! A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, December 11, 2015 at North Decatur United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Avis’ life. Rev. Jimmy Moor will be officiating the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to North Decatur United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity of your choosing.
