Anne Valencia Heys
Heys, Anne, 98, passed peacefully at her residence in Cobb County, on Friday, June 27, 2014. Anne was born in Duluth, Minnesota July 24th, 1915, daughter of Mary and Mike Valencia. She was raised in Duluth, MN and graduated from Denfeld High School. Following high school graduation she attended Minnesota Civil Service School, and was asked to teach at the school before she graduated. She received a government appointment in Washington, D.C. in 1937 as a stenographer for the Internal Revenue Service. She married Richard Heys and lived in Arlington, Virginia until the early 1970’s. After her husband Richard retired they moved to Duluth, MN where they resided over 30 years. Anne and Richard moved to Georgia in 2006 to be near their daughter, Barbara Blue. She was preceded in death, by her husband of 71 years, Richard Heys; her parents Mike and Mary Valencia; sisters, Mary Valencia, Lillian Johnson, and Joyce Nyberg. She was the loving and devoted Mother of two daughters, Barbara Anne Heys Blue, and Gay Belle Heys Tobia; six grandchildren: Anne Marie Blue Stakes, David Blue, Jr., Russell Blue, Andrew Blue, Michelle Tobia and Michael Tobia; ten great grandchild children: John Kelley, Joshua, Benjamin, and Brittany Blue, Jordan, Reilley and Nathaniel Blue, Emily and Hannah Blue, Elsa Crow; niece Carol Hotchkiss, nephews, Neil Nyberg and Ronald Johnson. She loved being active, enjoying softball, roller skating, bowling, bicycling , horseshoes, gardening and she really did love cleaning her home. In 1987 she attended the first National Senior Olympics held in Saint Louis and won a medal in women’s horseshoes. Anne and Richard enjoyed camping, boating, cross country skiing and attended over 30 Elderhostels. Anne and Richard loved to travel and went to Europe many times as well as to Russia and Egypt. She was a positive influence on all those she met and will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends. Memorial services will be private.
