joined together we can change the world.

Alice was a beautiful woman, rich in love and character. She left such an impression on so many lives, including my own. She will be missed tremendously. My deepest condolences to her family. May you take comfort in her memories. <3
My heart goes out to the family of Alice Johnson during this difficult loss. I still remember the time when Alice hired me right out of college as the administrative asistant with the Atlanta Fulton County commission on children and youth – later called the Jean Childs Young Center. She hired me, taught me so much in life and showed me so many great people like Rev James Orange, Jean Childs Young, Andrew Young – including a Trip to Ghana, West Africa which changed my life. Meeting Alice was one of the most memorable events of my life. Those are the kind of things that she will be remembered for – her making people smile and bringing laughter in their lives
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you in this trying time. Please let me know if there is a dedication of her life ceremony. Debora Rayford 404-484-7100
The family has my deepest sympathy. It was so wonderful to know Alice! She always had a beautiful smile! We will miss her especially when we have those discussions about guns!
Alice:
You were a mentor and dear friend. You were the number one advocate and fan for the Atlanta Police Department, and helped me immensely as a co-worker and friend. It is hard to find someone with such character, insight, commitment, and unselfish love. Camren and I love and miss you very much, Barbara Cavender
I am so saddened to hear this news. What a loss for our community! Alice was an ally for victims of domestic violence and a friend and colleague who I have respected immensely for years. My heartfelt condolences to her family. She will be missed.
What an incredible life force and change agent for good. Strong, witty, smart, authentic, wise and good to the core. We’ll keep up the fight, Alice – promise.
A true leader in the effort to reduce the effects of gun violence. I will miss you as will all the people who knew and associated with you professional or personally.
We were all deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Alice. Our city and all who knew her will sincerely miss her and all her efforts to make our community a better place to live. We all strive to make this world a better place and Alice did just that. Our thoughts and prayer are with her family and friends.
There are no words to adequately express the sadness that I feel right now. I send my deepest condolences to your family at this difficult time. What a life you lead and what a legacy you leave. I feel honored to have been your friend and privileged to have you mentor me all of these years. We all owe you the biggest debt of gratitude for fighting the good fight, never giving up and always rising to the challenge to help make all of our families safer from senseless gun violence. I will miss your smile, laugh, spirit, heart, intelligence and hugs. May you rest in Peace dear friend and know that we will continue to do right by your remarkable legacy of standing up for what is right.
From the moment we met you made me feel good and important. As time went on I saw you spread that gift to many. Your honor, your presence, your glow I will always hold dear. Thanks for being a part of my life….I am so happy that you were. Just like I know the sun rises every morning,I know you were loved and will be missed by many.I miss you already!!
We send love to Alice’s loved ones at this difficult time. Her tenacity, kindness, and boisterous laugh will be so missed at the State Capitol. I’m sad to miss the memorial but will be there in spirit to celebrate Alice’s life with you.
Alice was a very good friend to me who will be truly be missed. She always greeted me with a hug and kiss:. A fiend for more than thirty years. I will MISS YOU DEARLY LEADER.
Alice’s passion was mixed with deep knowledge, kindness to everyone, a great sense of justice and an equally good sense of humor. She brought together the community to make change and never forgot the people who mattered. She made a difference and will be truly missed.
For years Alice carried on a vigorous campaign to educate Georgians about gun violence and ways to minimize this scourge. She involved us in this work because we lost our adult son Jamie in the shootings at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007, and became an immediate source of both comfort and strength to us. We were recurrently amazed at her passion for this cause and for her indefatigability. She never let herself become discouraged except perhaps privately and thereby kept up the spirits of those of us more easily deterred by setbacks. Already we miss her warmth, caring, and resolve. We are all richer for having known her and poorer for having lost her long before she should have left us. Blessings on her spirit, her memory, and her loved ones.
I will always remember your wit and your wisdom, your dedication and incredibly positive outlook. You were truly an inspiration to me Alice Johnson. You left behind a lot of good, and good goes on.
Alice, We had our differences but what I will always remember is moving to Georgia together and the good work we did for the Ga. Brown Lung Association. You smoothed the way for our members to obtain justice for their occupational disease and you thrilled them by getting us an appointment with the Governor at that time. Our trip to Miami to do an organizing assessment at Jackson Memorial Hospital resulted in over 2000 RNs having a strong voice at work. Mostly though, I remember our friendship…sunbathing at “Grant Park” beach, going to the coast of NC, our trip to New Orleans, our Thanksgiving dinners together, our walks and our talks. You were like a sister to me for a long time. I am sorry you are gone too soon. You were a challenger, an analyst and a drum major for justice. You will be missed by many. I will always have you in my heart. My condolences to your sister and your brothers Rest in power, Alice. Presente
Alice was such a force for change in this world. I will miss her passion, her energy, her smarts, her laugh, and the twinkle in her eye. I’m honored that I got to work with her. Sending much love to her family at this sad time.
I met Alice about 25 years ago and we became instance good friends. She was helping with the Dream Jamboree one of the many causes that she supported and was dear to her. We became very close friends instantly. We would have dinner and solve the problem of the city and the world. Alice loved her family, friends. I would run in Grant Park stop by to see Alice, and what started out as a friendly hello ended up being a 2-3 hours great time just talking.. I will always Love her and Miss very much. I don’t have any one in my life that can take her place in my heart. Alice brought me a Wrigley Field coffee cup I love that cup. Every time I drink out of that cup I will thank God for Alice for placing her in my life. May God remove the pain in our heart of our loss. I can’t put into words how much I Love her and will Miss her.
I want to thanks her friends and family for allowing me to be a part of this great celebration for one of the truly good guys. I LOVE YOU ALICE JOHNSON
You were a Force – for principled good, Alice. All I know is that you must have been badly needed elsewhere.
It will be a real missing for this time and place. I celebrate your life!
Alice Johnson was always willing to go beyond the call of duty to get any job done! She made a difference through the Atlanta Police Department in many projects we conducted with the Morris Brown College Upward Bound/TRIO programs. She was indeed a vessel of God’s love and a dear friend of mine.
I remember Alice as a kind and sweet spirited person….and we partied back in the day and had good times!!!! You will truly be missed….My sincere condolences to the family.
I meet Alice 28 years ago while volunteering for a political campaign for Marty King. She was dedicated worker for the cause! Alice had a great spirit with a kind and generous soul. My favorite Aunt was visiting from California to celebrate her 60th birthday. Alice arranged for her to meet Mayor Andrew Young. It was her Best birthday present. My deepest sympathy to the family.
Alice was one of the most giving, selfless public servants I have ever met. An incredible human being. My wife Natalie and I send our deepest condolences to the Johnson family.
Alice was instrumental in adopting and implementing the Positive Loitering initiative for the City of Atlanta. We stood together one cold night in a neighborhood surrounded by police officers and citizens who wanted to show a unified front of community spirit to criminals who may have been lurking or watching. We stood together on many occasions. We attended many of the same meetings and had several discussions on how best to serve all of our people. Alice was a fierce advocate for the Atlanta Police Department. But apart from all of her many, many well-executed duties and responsibilities and talent and skills, I fondly recall the night she talked me into buying my little red convertible. “Life is too short,” she told me. Indeed, Alice. Your life was too short. But while you lived it, we are grateful to have known you. Godspeed, Alice. I will miss you.
Alice was a true fighter. She never gave up, even in the face of daunting odds. We are all better and safer because of her advocacy. She will be dearly missed at the Capitol.
I met her when it fell to me to lobby against some of the “gun bills” at the Capitol for my organization.
This was not easy and I was often on the receiving end of outright hostility and grossly outnumbered.
I could always look forward to having at least one friend to commiserate with the in hallway- Alice.
She never cowered in the face of her often intimidating and vociferous opponents. She would stand up to them and then moments later turn around and joke with me.
A couple of years ago I spoke at a conference in Athens without knowing Alice was in attendance. She found me in the hallway and hugged me warmly. It was like reuniting with an old war buddy. I will always remember that meeting with her.
She was a welcome friend for me in difficult times.
Dear Alice you will always be remembered in my heart. You had a wonderful spirit and I will cherish the serious projects we worked on and the many good and funny times we shared. I extend my sincerest condolences to the family.
Alice I didn’t get to say goodbye but you know I valued your friendship. You were a tremendous help to me on many occasions here at the police department. You always made sure I was included in key conversations and I will miss you. I wish we had one more holiday gathering at your house. Bless you and your family.
Alice always encouraged me. Over the summer I had an opportunity to spend quality time with her and we reflected on a personal level and how our life’s work was important. Well done Alice. You have finished this race, but your memory will live on through the work that you shared with others.
On behalf of the English Avenue Neighborhood Association, we love you.
When I was young and at my first major crossroad of life, Alice was there to strengthen my confidence and boost my courage to embrace my own possibilities. That blessing has never stopped renewing itself, and for that I will be forever grateful. RIP Alice – job well done! My prayers and love are with your family and friends. I’ll forever love you my friend!
It makes me so sad to think that Alice will no longer be fighting the good fight on behalf of the citizens of Georgia and Atlanta. It was always such a comfort to know that she shared my values and was advocating on behalf of all of us to keep us safe. She was smart, passionate, feisty, and kind. She will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and everyone who loved her.
R.I.P. You will truly be missed
Love you always ! Alice , we still going to have that Big celebration like you wanted !
