John Hubert Ramsey
John Hubert Ramsey, 76, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at his home in Loganville, GA after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was married to Nina Hearn Ramsey, and they shared 31 years of marriage together.
Born in West Frankfort, IL, he was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Paul Ramsey, and Elma Ramsey. He proudly told everyone how wonderful his parents were, and how special it was to grow-up in a home filled with love. John graduated from Metropolis Community High School in Metropolis, IL in May of 1963. He attended college at Anderson College in Anderson IN and Paducah Community College in Paducah, Kentucky. He served in the US Navy Reserves. John worked as a manager with Oxford Slacks in Monroe. He was the owner of Ramsey Landscaping Company when he retired. He was an active member of The Orchard Church in Loganville, GA. He loved his family and grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa John. As the grandchildren got older, they were disappointed to discover he didn’t own the Papa John’s Pizza franchise.
He is survived by his spouse Nina Hearn Ramsey, Children: Jason and Kari Ramsey, Suwanee, GA, Angelyn Ramsey, Snellville, GA, Jeffrey Wood, Tucker, GA, Brady and Marti Wood, Lehi, UT, Lieutenant Commander Micah L Wood, USN and Laura Wood, Jacksonville, FL and Todd and Ashley Wood, Loganville, GA, and 10 much adored grandchildren. Brother and sisters: David and Cheryl Ramsey Lakeland, FL, Martha and Lee Pelhank Marion, IL, Naomi and Pat Richmond Lacon, IL, and Rebecca Ramsey of Marion, IL.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5th at 1:00 p.m. at The Orchard Church, located at 1950 Hwy 81 S, Loganville, GA
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Orchard Church.

I will miss my Uncle John dearly. He was such a positive, fun-loving man. Even at his sickest he was still making us laugh. The last words he was able to mutter to me were “don’t be afraid”. My heart breaks for those of us left behind, but rejoices in the new body and freedom he has now- I love you Uncle John.
Nina, John touched so many with his kindness and joyful heart .His light will continue to shine through all that were blessed to know him.. The beautiful memories I have of you two will forever bring a smile to my face. I will celebrate those beautiful times.

My brother Gary Little and I are so sad to learn of John’s passing. He was a dear friend of my brother’s. His sister Rebecca was my best friend while they lived in Metropolis, IL. His whole family was loved here in Metropolis while his father served as minister of the First Church of God. I know his family will miss him terribly but will know without a doubt that he is walking the streets of gold in Heaven and celebrating his eternal life with his loving Heavenly Father and his earthly family. I am so sorry for your loss. John and I and many of our youth group went to the same high school in Metropolis. He and his siblings & parents were so loved by our church family and our community. John had a great sense of humor and the youth always had a lot of fun together. May God comfort your family during this difficult time. John will be missed.
John was and is always be a special light. His smile, laughter, jokes, pranks but most of all his love will live on in all of us forever.
Nina, Please know how sorry I am for your loss. I wish I had words to comfort you but only time has this capability. When you can once again breathe, you will begin to remember all the love and laughter that you two shared and, once again, he will make you smile…as he so often did. Nina, you, John and the entire family have been on my mind for the past year. Since John contracted Covid and began his battle with the return of his cancer, you were in my thoughts. I hate that I have not seen all of you in such a long time. I always appreciated being a part of the family gatherings, whether it be Thanksgiving, Christmas or another holiday. I always felt at home and grateful for the hospitality. John was definitely the center of it all. I know how much he loved the grandchildren and they felt the same about him. He will be greatly missed by all.

John had a big impact on my life in the last few years. His love of the Lord was infectious. I learned a lot from his example and his shared wisdom. His voice and his presence will be missed by many. But I know (as did he) that he is in paradise and no longer suffering.

John and I were good friends in our younger days. We played a lot church league basketball together. He was a great man.
