Joyce Terry McTavish
Joyce Terry McTavish was born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta on August 24, 1949 to Harold and Helen Terry. She lived in Atlanta until she was 10 and then moved to Athens where she graduated from Athens High School.
She attended Georgia Southern University before returning to Atlanta to live and work. She married Neil McTavish on April 9,1976 on St. Simons Island. She was very athletic and played softball, ALTA tennis, and swimming. Her athletic endeavors were cut short when she was diagnosed with MS. However, positive attitude about life continued as the MS progressed. She supported her 2 sons in their endeavors and was their biggest fan.
She worked in many positions in the Dekalb School System and finally as the bookkeeper and then as counseling secretary at Dunwoody High School when her MS necessitated her retirement.
She never met a stranger and always had a positive attitude in dealing with the hand that she was dealt. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She went home to our Lord on May 17,2021.
She is survived by her husband Neil, her sons Ian (Brooke) of West Des Moines, Iowa and Derek (Holly)of Athens, her sister Suzanne ( Don )Vennes and her 6 grandchildren ( Tatum & Bayn in Iowa, Maggie, Cole, Isaac, and Georgia in Athens) and several nieces & nephews.
The Graveside service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday June 6th at:
Greensboro City Cemetery

Greensboro. Ga 30642

Jean and I are so sad to hear of Joyce’s passing, we remmber her infectious smile and friendly nature when I worked with Neil at Georgia Power. God bless you and your family, Neil !
She was a wonderful person and a great sister-in-law. We enjoyed visiting while cleaning out the Clayton house. We will miss her positive attitude and wonderful personality.
I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful Wife, Mother & Grandmother. Joyce was a wonderful friend to me. I looked up to her and will always remember her kindness and little laugh. I look forward to seeing her again.
What a great woman. Always positive after her diagnosis. She took great care of her Aunt Louise. It was my pleasure to do her hair for almost 30 thirty years. I know you will miss her but 45 years of memories will carry you. GOD BLESS
I was saddened do hear the news of Joyce’s passing. She was a joy filled person and a delight to be around. Rest in pease Joyce.

My dearest family, I am saddened Joyce has left us and happy that she is with our Lord and Savior. From the day we met Joyce and I became friends, family, and confidants. Joyce – a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend kept me going while dealing with her own challenges. Joyce is a selfless angel. No matter what was going on, we always managed to smile, laugh and look at the bright side. My McTavish clan, I will always love her and each of you. Neil and Joyce have long been one of the great things about living in Lake Villas. On many a walk we’ve stopped to talk and Joyce has always been upbeat even in her chair. What a nice couple. She will be deeply missed.
