Emerson Ross Daniel III passed away on July 3, 2025. He was born on June 6, 1946 in Americus
Georgia to Margery Crittenden Daniel and Emerson Ross Daniel Jr.
Ross graduated from Dalton High School in 1964 and The Georgia Institute of Technology in 1968. He
earned an MBA from Georgia State University in the early seventies and began a career in real estate.
While at Georgia Tech he met the love of his life, Bryn Couey. In 1969 they married and began a life
together in Atlanta.
Ross’s pride and joy was his family, especially his three sons Russell, David, and Michael. He often
referred to them as his men, teaching them lessons of faith, responsibility, importance of family, and
integrity. Ross and his men (back when they were just boys) were fixtures at one of Ella’s tables for
breakfast on Thursday mornings at the Feed Mill in Buckhead. He also made sure that ours was a
Jacket Family. Always a Tech fan, he tolerated no slippage. Tech rules in the Daniel house.
A lifelong Methodist, Ross was active at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church serving as an
usher, a member of the Administrative Board, a member of the Finance Committee, and a Disciple
participant and leader. He was a 50-year member of the Blazers Sunday School Class and was an
important cog in the class leadership.
Ross was also an avid recreational runner (until recent years) and has a vast array of Peachtree Road
Race tee shirts to prove it! He made many lifelong friends running with the Buckhead “Y’s ‘n Shiners.”
In his more senior years he enjoyed golfing with his sons and brother in their annual (and esteemed)
“DanFam Cup” which they held at numerous different golf destinations over the years, including a
Jack Nicklaus course at the Breckenridge Golf Club in Colorado. Although a prestigious event, they
were always surprised that no media would turn out.
Above all, Ross was a kind and gentle man. He raised his sons with patience and warmth, teaching
them by example to lead with compassion and respect for others. His sons are deeply proud to call
him their father. We will all miss his easy smile, his gentle nature, and his big, unforgettable laugh.
Ross is survived by his wife Bryn; his sons Russell (Stephanie) of Charlotte NC, David (Heather) of
Bainbridge Island WA, and Michael (Charity) of Cumming GA; his six grandchildren Mason, Emerson,
Keegan, Ian, Connor and Spencer; and his brother Bill Daniel (Jeanie) of Landrum SC.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 2 at 3:00pm in the sanctuary at Peachtree Road
United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30305. A reception will follow in Grace
Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to consider making a donation to the Peachtree Road Flower
Guild, the Georgia Tech Foundation, or to your own favorite charity.
