September 8, 1943 ~ October 15, 2022

Penelope McCulloch Rose, passed away on October 15, 2022, in her home which she loved since she was 7 years old.

Penny was born on September 8, 1943, to Josephine Turner McCulloch and was a native of Atlanta. She is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Bobby Lee Rose. She is survived by her children, Casey Rose (Alicia) and Jolee Rose Whaley (Andrew), and her beloved grandchildren, Tanner Rose, Jordan Whaley, Adley Rose, Tate Whaley and Brody Rose.

Penny attended Cross Keys High School (’61), Young Harris College (’63), and Oglethorpe University (’65). She met her dear husband at Young Harris and always had a love for this special place. She began working in the library at Oglethorpe as a student and continued on after graduation. After having children, she became a stay-at-home mom but went back to the library when her kids were older. She retired from the library in 2011.

Penny attended Oglethorpe Presbyterian as a child but was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church for over 40 years and most recently, Chamblee First United Methodist Church. She loved her church and being involved in several aspects of it such as the choir, Sunday School, Women’s groups and more. She was also involved in every aspect of her children’s lives through PTA, Room Mom, Team Mom, Booster Clubs and more. She was always there and willing to help with anything. She was a behind the scenes worker and did not like to be the center of attention although she would talk to anyone she met. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend.

Her memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on October 20, 2022, at Chamblee First UMC with a reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Chamblee First UMC music department which she and Bobby both loved dearly.
