Martha Jane Mitchell Campbell, age 95 of Atlanta, GA passed away Monday May 13th, 2019. She was born on August 9th, 1923 in Greensboro, N.C.. Martha received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Greensboro College in 1944 and her Masters of Religious Education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1948. Martha was employed by the N.C. Baptist State Convention before marrying Jack Campbell. She taught school in Oxford N.C. and Kingston N.J. and started a Kindergarten program at First Baptist Church Morganton, N.C.. Martha was a Psychiatric Social Worker from 1969-1987 in two of N.C.’s State Hospitals: Broughton and John Umstead. After retiring, Martha did volunteer work at Durham N.C.’s Regional Hospital, St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church in Durham, and St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell, GA.. Martha played the organ and was president while living at the Huntcliff Summit Senior Living in Sandy Springs, GA and was an active member of the Red Hats Society. Martha loved classical music, playing the piano, cooking, reading, animals, and a good joke! She had an incredibly positive attitude no matter what came her way, a strong faith, and was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents: Wilson S. Mitchell and Eva Clark Mitchell; her brothers: Wilson S. Mitchell Jr and John C. Mitchell; her husband: Jack Hicks Campbell (married for 54 years and the love of her life); and her daughter: Karen C. Campbell. Martha is survived by her sister: Beverly M. Sledge; her daughter: Katherine C. Jenkins; her son: Arthur A. Campbell; her grandchildren: Lauren C. Jenkins, Matthew H. Campbell, Mitchell L. Campbell, and Melenda A. Campbell.

A celebration of Martha’s life is planned for Sat. June 15th at 11:00 am at the Royster Cemetery in Bullock, N.C.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to the Habitat of Humanity or the Humane Society.
