Lucille Byars

Lucille Mann Byars passed away peacefully on August 21, 2013 in Atlanta, GA. She was the daughter of Cannie and William Henry Mann, born July 25, 1921 in Anderson, S.C. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William “Bill” Mann and Carl Jack Mann.

Surviving children include one son, William Dexter Brooks wife Robin Lynn of Marietta, GA; and three grandchildren, Stephen Mann Brooks wife Marla-Deen of Atlanta, GA; Todd Christian Brooks wife Avery Catts of St. Simons Island, GA; and Michael Scott McCormick of Marietta, GA. Additionally, she had six great-grandchildren; Kathleen Anne Brooks, William Deen Brooks, Lucy Manning Brooks, Stephen Smith Brooks, John Thomas Brooks and Rebekah Christian Brooks.

Mrs. Byars was employed for forty four years by the Butlers Shoe Group, Inc. as Associate Buyer and retired in November 1987. She loved butterflies and was never seen without a butterfly pin perched on her shoulder. She especially enjoyed spending time with family on her frequent trips to Highlands, NC and St. John, USVI. She was a devout Christian who was most interested in living a quality, independent life.

After cremation, the family will hold a private memorial gathering, as was requested by the deceased. Those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to Briarcliff Oaks, 2982 Briarcliff Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329; or the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairmont Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030.
