Lee Roy Rice Storm

Lee Roy Rice Storm Jr., age 94, of Dunwoody, Georgia passed away March 2, 2016. A memorial service for Roy will be held Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joe B. Martin officiating. An interment ceremony will be held for family members Friday, March 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
Roy was born in Dewitt, Missouri on August 21, 1921. Roy graduated from University of Missouri, where he was the starting center for their basketball team, with an Engineering degree in 1943. He then served his country in World War II as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army. Specifically, he was a Field Artillery Unit Officer and a Special Assignments Officer in the Office of Strategic Services OSS serving in Detachment 101 in Burma. He was awarded 3 medals at the completion of his service in December 1945 – the Victory Medal World War II, the American Theater Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with 2 Bronze Battle Stars.
After the war, Roy returned to Missouri, married his college sweetheart, Sheila Spragg and moved to Chicago to work as an engineer for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad. He spent his career working for several construction companies as an engineer, primarily as chief estimator and project manager. Roy and Sheila had 4 children and were married for 20 years until her death in 1966. Roy met and married Jo Kathryn Jody Storm in 1967. Jody had one son, Larry, from a prior marriage. Roy and Jody moved to Dunwoody, Georgia in 1974. They were married for 47 years until her death in November 2014 at age 94. Roy always said he was blessed to have 2 wonderful wives and 2 very happy marriages.
Roy’s favorite activities included woodworking, lapidary work, traveling, camping and gardening. He was a long-time devoted member of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church and took great pleasure in sharing his ministry of making thousands of cross necklaces for new church members and friends, even sending crosses with former First Lady Rosalyn Carter on her mission trip to Russia.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Storm Sr. and Ula Sarah Storm, and his brother Ken. Roy is survived by his sisters Maxine Moreau and Marge Romano of California, sons Larry Deah Gary of Illinois, Stephen Storm of Colorado, Stewart Storm of Georgia, daughters Starla Steinmann and Stacia Tim Minton of Georgia and 5 grandchildren: Stewart Storm Jr., Stephanie Storm, Syra Steinmann, Melody Minton and Marily Minton.
Roy was a kind, loving, honorable man. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
