John Samuel Newman of Gainesville, Georgia, dies October 6, 2014. He was preceded in death by his sons, Charles Paul Newman and Glen Thomas Newman. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Miriam Hoskins Newman; brother Charles Newman; dautghter Sherri Newman; John Richard Newman and wife, Cindy. He also leaves grandsons, Mike Strunk and wife Kym, Mark Strunk, Eric Newman and John Robert Newman; granddaughters Christine Marie Driver, Lisa McClain and Lauren Gilbert. John was born 10/31/1929 in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Atlanta in 1969, then to Gainesville, Georgia in 1987. John built his first boat, 16′ runabout, from a set of plans ina magazine and with it he taught all of his family to waterski. He was a beloved and loving husban, father and grandfather. He also loved the lake and spent as much time as possible with Miriam out on his boat, Riding High. John was a skilled carpenter and used his talent to change a small cabin on a hill into a beautiful lake home, adding two rooms, large deck and garage. John was a strong advocate for animals and should anyone wish to honor his memory, a donation to the animal rescue of your choice would be appreciated. He had strong feelings about funerals and, following his wishes, his remains will be cremated and there will be no memorial service.
