Jeanne Delany Singer

Jeanne DeLany Singer, died quietly in her home on Sunday, January 10, 2021. She was the devoted and supportive wife of Fred S. Singer for 63 years, until he died May 24, 2019. She was a loyal friend, and the proud and loving mother of three children. She is survived by her two daughters: Julia Singer Myrick (Richard), and Mary Singer Newton (Malcolm). Her son Jefferson DeLany Singer and his wife, Susan died February 22, 1983.

Jeanne is also survived by her three grandchildren: Richard Smith Myrick III (Anna), Ansley Myrick Thomas (Philip), and Julia Reid Newton, and six great-grandchildren, Delany Rush Thomas, Philip Lawton Thomas, Mary Elizabeth Myrick, Ruby Jane Thomas, Richard Smith Myrick IV, and Winifred Mae Thomas, as well as her sister, Judy DeLany McGinnis of New Orleans.

Jeanne Elizabeth DeLany was born in Augusta, Georgia, September 30, 1933. She moved to Atlanta where she graduated from North Fulton High School. Jeanne and her sister Joanne LeCraw are remembered by their opponents as formidable athletes on the basketball court. Jeanne continued to be an avid sports fan, attending her children and grandchildren’s games in any kind of weather, following Georgia Tech football and watching any kind of sports on television right up until the last days of her life.

Jeanne’s faith and church life were important to her. She treasured her friends and sunday school class at Second Ponce de Leon Church and the last 12 years as a member of Northwest Presbyterian. Jeanne loved her extended family including her siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed organizing gatherings with friends and family, and trips to her second home in Destin, Florida. Jeanne will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private memorial service is planned in the Memory Garden at Northwest Presbyterian on Saturday, March 13, 2021. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Northwest Presbyterian Church, 4300 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.
