James Leon Hazelrigs, age 81, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Douglasville, Georgia on 9-28-11. Leon grew up in Atlanta where he attended Boys’ High School. During the Korean Conflict, he was in the army serving in Germany. He attended Georgia State University. Leon had a passion for golf, singing in his church choir, attending the symphony and musical comedy. He retired as an auditor for The State of Georgia, Revenue Department.
Leon is survived by his much loved wife of 56 years, Nancy Tucker, his daughter, Lynn Griffin Mark of Kennesaw, his son, James Tucker Hazelrigs of Kennesaw, 3 grandchildren, Dianne Hazelrigs, and Jennifer and Matthew Griffin. Other survivors include his brother, Warren Lamar Hazelrigs Carolyn, nieces, Robyn Hazelrigs, Janet O’Connor, nephew Bradley Hazelrigs Claudia, great niece, Carly, and sister-in-law, Linda Tucker.
A memorial service to celebrate Leon’s life will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Douglasville First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the music ministry of the Douglasville First Baptist Church, 5900 Prestley Mill Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30135.
