Mr. Harry Edward Estes, age 78, of Marietta Georgia, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017.  A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 12 at 1:00pm in the Sanctuary at Mt. Paran Church. There will be a reception immediately following the service for friends and family honoring Harry’s life. The Church and reception address is 2055 Mt. Paran Road, Atlanta, GA 30027.

After graduating from Milton High School, Harry attended Mercer University in Macon where he met his “Yankee” soul mate, Julie.  He then served in the Army Reserves.

Harry had a tremendously successful career at Life of Georgia as one of their top salesmen, earning many trips, awards and accolades.  After retiring from Life of Georgia, he dedicated himself one day a week working at his daughter and son-in-law’s welding shop in Atlanta.  He was always a hard working man, helping others and enjoyed “getting his hands dirty.”

He loved playing golf with his buddies.  Not only was he consistently able to outdrive men half his age, he was also blessed to play rounds of golf at Pebble Beach, the Old Course at St. Andrews and more than a few “cow pastures”.  He looked forward to his yearly trips to his hunting club.  Most of all he enjoyed the camaraderie with his hunting buddies.

Harry was passionate about his family and spending time with them.  He looked forward to his yearly vacations, having holiday gatherings, and any other reason to spend time with them.  He loved working in the yard and his dogs.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Julia Schou Estes and his daughters and sons-in-law, Dean and Lisa Harrington, Marty and Kelly Martin and sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Alyson Estes, Jeff and Anne Estes.  Grandchildren: Bjorn & Shaye Thornton, Blake Tyers, Trevor & Meghan Harrington, Brad & Emily Hollihan, Emily Martin, Madison Estes, Luke Martin, Ellen Courter, Camden Estes and Cooper Estes.  Great grandchildren and two of his biggest joys: Beritt Thornton and Lucy Kate Harrington.  Brothers and sister in laws: Virlyn & Betty Estes, Doug and Faye Estes and his “favorite sister” Sheila Norman.

He lived life to the fullest and will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to the Ronald McDonald House Charities at www.rmhc.org.

In Harry’s memory, do something to honor him.  Take a picture to capture the moment and post it on social media using the hashtag #TheLedgendaryHarry.
