Francis Henry Mickey Foster, of Stockbridge, GA, died at the age of 81 on 01 April 2014 at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia. Frank was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Ursuline High School and graduated from Youngstown University. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Noreen nee Bennett Foster of Chester, West Virginia, and his parents, Francis Hubert Foster and Corabelle nee Osgood Foster, both of Youngstown, Ohio.
Frank and Noreen met and fell in love while studying to be teachers at Youngstown University. They started out married life as teachers, first in Ashtabula and then Youngstown, Ohio. Wanting a big family, Frank volunteered for active duty and began his career in the United States Army.
Frank served in the United States Army for over 30 years, completing tours of duty in France, Fort Lee in Virginia, the Republic of South Vietnam – two tours, the University of Florida – earning a Master’s Degree in Education and teaching ROTC, Fort McClellan in Alabama, the Republic of Korea, Letterkenny Army Depot in Pennsylvania, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, and retired at Fort Meade in Maryland.
Frank is survived by his seven children: Patrick J. Foster Milton, FL, Thomas J. Foster Stockbridge, Daniel J. Foster Waipahu, HI, Bennett J. Foster Ainstree, Liverpool, England, Julia R. Foster Stockbridge, Colleen M. Foster Stockbridge, and Gerard J. Foster Hampton, GA and his sister Patricia nee Foster Miller. Frank was also loved and cherished by his 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial mass will be held April 9th at 11:00 A.M. at Saint James the Apostle Catholic Church in McDonough, GA, followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00 P.M. at Fairview Memorial Gardens and Cemetery 164 Fairview Rd. Stockbridge, GA 30281. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Friends of the Army Women’s Museum Association at P.O. Box 1027, Prince George, VA 23875.
