Bobby Lee Moore

“Bob” Moore passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home in Mableton, Georgia on Sunday, October 2nd. He had persevered with grace and humor through a three year fight with prostate cancer. Born Bobby Lee Moore, on January 14, 1933 in Swan Lake, Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, Bob led a full and complete life.

After graduating from Moss Point High School, in Moss Point, Mississippi in 1950, Bob proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He began a 30-year career as a Field Service Engineer working for the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in 1958. His McDonnell career took him all over the world, serving his country by providing engineering support to the Air Force in the F-101 Voodoo and F-4 Phantom fighter programs. He was called to duty solving technical problems and keeping planes flying over four decades, in diverse locations including Viet Nam, Great Britain and Libya during the Cold War and throughout the United States while stationed in North Dakota, California, New York, Massachusetts, New Mexico and Virginia. He ended his career with McDonnell as a Senior Field Service Engineer assigned to the Air Force’s Tactical Air Command at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia in 1988.

Bob showed his family the world but raised his children in Newport News, Virginia from the fall of 1969 through summer of 1988. He was very committed to helping young people grow and learn. He was a CubMaster and very proud of his 12 years of coaching and two city championships with the Denbigh Youth Football organization. He also coached youth baseball and basketball and drove the church bus for the youth group. He was an Elder at the Olivet Christian Church and, along with his family, was a founding member of the Seaford Church of Christ. At the Seaford Church, he was also an elder and filled in as preacher from time to time.

Bob loved his family and he committed his life to serving others and to living a Christian life. After his “first” retirement, he enrolled in Atlanta Christian College to prepare for a second career as a Preacher. He was ordained a Minister of Christ by the Elders of the Seaford Church of Christ , now Seaford Christian Church, on June 4, 1989. He and his wife June also moved to Stockbridge, Georgia in 1989 and resided there for 27 years. During this time he led the First Christian Church of La Grange, Georgia and then the North Dekalb Christian Church in Doraville, Georgia.

Along the way Bob also found the time to be a scuba diving instructor, an expert witness for plane crash accident investigations, an avid hunter, a genealogist, a self-published author and a mechanic and crew chief for a sports car racing team. He loved gardening and canning, woodworking and cooking and many were lucky enough to eat his barbecued ribs. He gave time and energy to many organizations including serving on the boards of Christian City, a ministry serving the needs of children, seniors and their families in Union City, Georgia and Sunbelt Christian Youth Ranch in Lake, Mississippi.

He was always ready to solve the problem whether by “rolling up his sleeves” or figuring out what others could not. Bob made everyone around him feel comfortable with his warmth and sense of humor; he liked to introduce himself as “just a country boy from Mississippi” and he loved to hear

and tell great stories. He will be missed by the countless people that he touched and inspired, worked with and ministered to all over the world.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, June, whom he met on Thanksgiving in 1954 and married in December of 1955 in Amarillo, Texas, starting a life-long love affair and partnership. He was adored by his sons and their wives, Jim and Becky Moore of Mableton, Georgia and John and Patti Moore of Louisville, Kentucky and his grandchildren, Catherine Moore and Daniel Moore. He is also survived by two sisters, Esther Rockwell of Helena, Mississippi and Frances Jenkins of Memphis, Tennessee and preceded in death by his sister Mary Margaret Raitt of Dupo, Illinois.

On Sunday, October 9th, 2016, at 3:00pm, Bob’s life will be celebrated at the First Christian Church of Mableton, 878 Old Alabama Rd SW, Mableton, Georgia 30126.

Bob will also be remembered at a service on October 16th, 2016 at 3:00pm at Three Rivers Assembly of God, 15910 Hwy 63, Moss Point, Mississippi after which he will receive Military Honors graveside at the Evergreen Cemetery in Helena, Mississippi where he will be laid to rest in a family plot.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bob’s honor be made to “Dinner” at First Christian Church of Mableton, a ministry that feeds 250 at risk teens from Pebblebrook High School every Wednesday night. Make checks to “First Christian Church of Mableton” referencing
