December 23, 1953 ~ December 19, 2022

Born in: Atlanta, GA
Resided in: East Point, GA

Richard H. Davidson, Jr. (Ricky), a lifetime resident of East Point, GA, passed away unexpectedly at work on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 68.

Ricky was born on December 23, 1953 to Richard and Catherine Davidson. He is survived by his wife, Marla “Gail” Davidson, his sister, Deanna Ferrell, his sister-in-law, Patricia Livingston, his niece, Ashley Kristen Ferrell and great nieces and a great nephew.

Ricky worked as a generator technician at Cummins for 32 years and had many friends and co-workers working with him. As almost everyone could testify, he had a memory “like an elephant”. Co-workers at Cummins were always amazed that Ricky could give specific locations, part numbers, etc for most Cummins generators in Atlanta and surrounding areas. As testimony to his memory, he could also quote lines from movies he’d seen years ago and verses from many songs. His many interests included traveling with his wife of 30 years, cruising and photography.

A memorial service (with no viewing) will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 12 pm – 3 pm. It will be held at the Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home located in Hapeville, GA.

All are welcome.

  3. Don Ridgeway says:

The memory like an elephant is correct. Ricky was the go to guy for information. Always found a way to get the job done. He will be missed greatly.

  4. STEVE BILLINGS says:

Ricky was the biggest pain in my butt over anyone I’ve ever worked with. If you screwed up he would be the first to chew you out and let you have it, most of the time rightfully so. Also you wouldn’t screw up again. YET, if I ever ran into a problem he would be the first person to help me. Even if it meant staying at work after he supposed to go home. So many times we worked together figuring and solving parts problems. He didn’t have to do that but he always did.
I’m going to miss him. Not for always helping me. Not for his vast knowledge. Not for his impeccable work ethic to our customers.
I am going to miss him because he was my friend.

  5. Kristen says:

  10. Bill Workman says:

A Childhood neighborhood friend and school mate beginning in 1961. We played Army, Football, Rode our Bikes up and down Lyle Avenue for many years. We even had paper routes and played in the Band. I have great memories of Ricky, along with his Mother, Father, and Sister. Sadly, my family moved us away in 1968 and we lost contact for many years.
It was a joy to see him at the RHS Class of ’72, 50th Reunion, just a few months ago.
    RIP my Friend.

  13. Steven Elder says:

Ricky and I worked to together for 33 years. Ricky could remember every project we ever did together. I could always count on him for answers to the tough questions. It took me many years to get the honorable title of ” all right, Killer”! To say that Ricky will be missed is an understatement.

  14. James Meredith says:

Enjoyed working with Ricky for the past 20+ years. He taught me a lot and I will never forget him. We are going to miss his talent.

  15. Bubba Newman says:

Rickey , what can I say he was a friend he would do anything to help you but first he would tell you how stupid you were an a idiot can’t believe Cummins put u on the road and then he would help me,then after about 1hr he would call me back to see if that worked,I loved that guy still in disbelief he is with Jesus, he was so young an he was fixing to retire and enjoy life after Cummins, but GOD had other plans for Ricky rest in peace 🕊️ Ricky I will see you later my brother.

  16. John Vining says:

As a lot of his friends have said he had the memory of an elephant and I have to agree. I think he knew every part number in the Onan gen set parts manual and knew about 99% of the Cummins numbers, but he was also a ‘walking, talking GPS person. In the late 90’s I was having to deliver lots of gen sets for the company and Google Maps were useful, but many amny times I would ask Ricky how to get to a certain address. His first question was always “what are you driving”? I would tell him and he would then start getting the map drawn up –in his head, he would then get the book of maps we had and make a copy of it and ‘hilight’ the route I should take. I never got lost and I was sure in a lot of area’s I didn’t know anything about. Ricky you will be missed by many many people. I am glad I knew you and you were a fantastic person to work with. God bless you!!
