William Lindsey "Bill" Stephenson

William Lindsey “Bill” Stephenson passed away on 3 May, 2025 following a brief but intense battle with cancer.

Bill was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1956, the third son of Al and Barbara Stephenson. Bill graduated from Samuel Wolfson High School in 1974. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and earned a Master’s degree in Architecture in 1984.While an undergraduate Bill studied abroad in Paris. Bill was a member of the Tech Cross Country Team.

Bill was known for his talent for finding and repurposing old buildings, his encyclopedic knowledge of popular music, his quick wit, his hand-drawn birthday cards, and his love of our coastal islands.

Predeceased by his parents, Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Harris Stephenson; daughters Mary Ware (Carson Sears) and Caroline Kuruvilla (Matthew Kuruvilla); grandchildren Charlie and Eliza Jane Ware, and Leo William Kuruvilla; brothers Bob Stephenson (Sharon) of Kailua, HI, and Jim Stephenson (Emelia) of Greenville, SC; nephew Morgan Stephenson – Kaneohe, HI; and niece Sally Stephenson – London, UK.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Pawleys Island, SC, in October.
