Tonia Leigh Wood

Tonia Leigh Wood, 55, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, after a tough and courageous cancer journey.

Born on January 28, 1971, in Marietta, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Barbara Ann Higgins and James Kenneth Wood. She followed several different career paths during her lifetime before ending up in revenue recovery at Ensemble Health Partners, where she was for the last eight years.

Above all else, Tonia was a devoted mother. She is survived by her daughter, Alex Gilliam, and son-in-law, Colin Gilliam, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as her aunts Linda Murdock and Carolyn Wood Beverly.

She was passionate about Atlanta sports, loved exploring the city, and often spent her free time crafting.

Tonia loved fiercely, was always unapologetically herself, and never stopped dreaming big for the ones she cared about. Her strength throughout her life, and especially during her illness, was an inspiration to all who loved her.

A celebration of life will be held in early March in Mexico Beach, Florida, for those close to her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Piedmont Oncology Institute in her memory.
