Sandra Jeannette Vernon, 77, of Cumming, GA passed away peacefully March 26th, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Dementia.
Sandy was born in Searcy, Arkansas in March 1945 to John H. and Jeanne Griffin. Being the oldest of five siblings Sandy was a natural born leader into trouble and mischief. Being a part of a military family meant Sandy grew up all over the United States, including, Arkansas, New York, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Nevada, before landing in Alaska. Sandy studied at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
In 1976 Sandy married her husband Bart in Anchorage, Alaska before moving to Seattle, Washington to start their family. Sandy, Bart and their two girls relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1998. Sandy found her passion and love of show dogs and spent many years showing Italian Greyhounds and Pharaoh Hounds.
Survivors include daughter Jocelyn (Brian) McCloskey, siblings Ken (Angie) Griffin, Melba (Jim) McFarland, John L. Griffin, and Sue (Jim) Caylor, multiple grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband Bart Vernon, daughter Blair Vernon, parents John H. and Jeanne Griffin.
In honor of Bart and Sandy’s wishes, their ashes will be scattered together on Puget Sound at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Sandy’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
