Ruth M. Raab, beloved mother of Dave, Diane, and Susan, quietly passed into the presence of her Lord on June 9, 2026. She died at home, preceded by her husband of 74 years, Herbert L. Raab, Jr., and is survived by her three children and their spouses: Teresa Raab, Gary Antonacci, and Alex Popov; four grandchildren and their spouses: Nick and Diana Ledgard, Savannah and Phil Hadwiger, Devon and Gavin McAlister, and Spencer Ledgard; six great-grandchildren: Olivia, Ethan, Charlotte, Leighton, Colson, and Colin; and her sweet grand dog, Brody. Mom, aka Nana, was well-loved by all of them, and they meant the world to her.
Ruth was born in 1932 in Newark, NJ, to Frank and Gladys Mitchell, where she grew up, attended Hillside High School, and met and married her sweetheart, Herb, at the age of 18. They moved to Miami, Florida, and raised their children there. Ruth was active in church and women’s ministries, played softball, tennis, golf, and bowling, and was always involved with the children’s various extracurricular activities. She held several secretarial positions in business, medical, and educational fields to help support the family while always being available to her children.
When Herb retired, they moved to Marietta, GA, where they lived until now. Ruth and Herb traveled around the country and were active in their community and neighborhood, but mostly enjoyed time spent with their extended family. Ruth especially loved spending time at her home, gardening, and caring for the birds, deer, and “chippies” who constantly visited. Mom was the cornerstone of our family, and she will be greatly missed while we look forward to a wonderful heavenly reunion someday.
A celebration of her life will be held at her home, 3813 Oxford Way East, Marietta, GA 30062, on July 11 from 1:00–3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the ministry she loved and supported: Samaritan’s Purse – www.samaritanspurse.org.
