Ronnie Joe “Ron” Allen of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the age of 65. As one of his friend’s said: “the world has lost a kind, thoughtful, gentle soul.”
Ron was born to Ira Wilson Allen and Jessica Irene Lowry on August 3, 1953 in Royston, Georgia. He was the youngest of eight. Received his degree in Bachelor of Arts from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, and moved to Decatur, Georgia, to continue his education at Columbia Theological Seminary.
Ron married Maria Eugenia de las Casas-Allen from Bogotá, Colombia, on February 10, 1990. He is survived by his wife Maria Eugenia, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances (Jack) Brown, Las Vegas, NV; LouDean Mayes, Newport News, VA; Nancy Allen, Marietta; Carolyn (Larry) Caldwell, Greer, South Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law Douglas (Lee) Allen, Riverdale and Ira (Linda) Allen, Jr., Lawrenceville, and numerous nieces and nephews; he is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clifford Allen.
Ron retired from Fidelity Bank, where he worked for over 30 years. He was known for his passion for reading and writing; his collection of pipes and books, his big library at home, his deep love for different genres of music, classic and rock n’ roll being some of his favorites. He was a very well educated, intellectual and joyful person to talk to, and to be around.
A Mass of Remembrance will take place at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandy Springs, on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 10:00 am.
