Roman G. Serrano

On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, Roman G. Serrano, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94.

He was born on December 14, 1927, to Amelia and Alonso Serrano in Mexico City, Mexico, where he developed many artistic skills; photography was one of them, but his passion was tap dancing. As Roman became known in his artistic career, he was offered an opportunity to work on a project that involved comedic actor, Mario Moreno “Cantinflas.” Although this was a great opportunity, Roman had his heart set on living the American dream; and as the lyrics of one of his favorite songs came to his mind “…If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere,” he traveled to the United States where he met the love of his life, Teresa.

When Roman would hear a song that reminded him of Mexico, he would tear up, but he never complained or seemed to think he had made the wrong decision on coming to the U.S., in fact, every birthday when asked to make a wish or give a speech, he would say that he had everything he could ever wish for: his American citizenship, his health, his love Teresita, and his family. Indeed, he had it all.

Roman is survived by his wife, Teresa, their daughters Diana (Federico), Monica (Tom), and son Michael; grandchildren, Federico, Armando, Jamil, Adriel, Shaylan, Ashanti, Hannah, Kyle, Lauren, and Landon; great grandchildren in Atlanta, Torrence and Luca, and 14 more living in Illinois and Mexico; his brother, Bill. Roman is preceded in death and reunited with grandchildren Daniel, Tomas, and Brittain.

A memorial service will be held on September 3rd, at 11:00 AM at Brookhaven Christian Church located at 4500 Peachtree Rd. N.E. Atlanta, GA 30319.

Roman’s gentle, kind, and cheerful spirit will be missed. He left behind a rich cultural heritage and a great legacy, but his greatest gift to us is family.

Roman, may the love that you had for us, along with the love of Christ in us, continue to grow as family and friends honor you. May you continue to dance on those streets of gold in heaven.
