Richard E. Belote, age 91, Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday evening, May 13, 2014.
Richard was born in Evanston, Illinois on March 28, 1923, son of the late Edwin Irving Belote and the late Leo Orr Belote. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Vivien Landrum Belote, and his sister, Margaret Belote Morse.
Richard Dick was a veteran of WWII, and served as a chaplain’s assistant. He was involved with The Gideons for over 40 years, speaking in many churches around the south and aiding in Bibles being sent all over the world. He was a graduate of the old Boys High School in Atlanta and the University of Georgia. He was in the insurance business for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Bray Belote, to whom he married on June 6, 1996; his 2 daughters, Leigh Belote Jones, and her husband, Bruce, Simpsonville, SC, and Bonnie Belote Futrell, and her husband, Price, Smyrna, GA, and 3 step-children, Lee Boatright, and his wife, Linda, Smyrna, David Boatright, Rome, Donnie Boatright, Woodstock; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Jones, and his wife, Heather, Columbia, SC, Marie Jones Jenness, and her husband, Brandon, Salt Lake City, Utah, Stephanie Northen, and her husband, Michael Harbour, LA, California, Julie Northen Milam, and her husband, Adam, Syracuse, NY, Laura Northen, Atlanta, and step-granddaughter, Jennifer Boatright Floyd, and her husband, Robert, Marietta; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial Celebration will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, GA on May 29th at 1:00 PM. Family will receive visitors at the church following the service. Donations may be made to Gideons International , PO Box 3041, Rome, GA 30164.
