Richard Lyle Anacker, beloved husband of Cheryl Anacker, passed away into the arms of Jesus on June 3, 2026. He was 82 years old and was at his home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, surrounded by family and friends.
Richard was born on October 23, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina, to Mary Jo Vargarson Anacker and Lyle Eugene Anacker. Lyle was a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was killed in action one week before Richard was born, but he wrote a beautiful poem for his unborn baby and chose the name Richard if he were to have a son.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Wesley Anacker, who passed away in October 2020.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cheryl Anacker; his daughter, Kimberly Davis, and son-in-law, Edward Davis; his daughter-in-law, Anne Anacker; and five grandchildren, Braeden Anacker, Grace Anacker, Cason Anacker, Kaitlin Davis, and Ashley Davis.
Richard graduated from Columbia High School and from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's degree in Science. After college, he attended the pilot training program at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
He met his wife, Cheryl, in Charleston, South Carolina. They were married in September 1967 at Bethany Methodist Church on James Island in Charleston. Richard and Cheryl moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1968.
His career was in accounting, and while working, he returned to school at Georgia State University, where he earned a degree in Accounting. He retired from MARTA in 2007.
Richard's love for music and his love for Jesus Christ stayed with him throughout his life. He taught himself to play guitar, loved to sing, and sang with church choirs and a community choir. He deeply loved his family and was steadfast in his Christian walk and faith. He knew his home was with Christ Jesus, and he was fully prepared for that journey.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at North Metro Baptist Church, 1047 Highway 124, Hoschton, Georgia 30548.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
