Ray Charles Eddy

March 22, 1938 — July 28, 2011

EDDY, Ray Charles, 73 of Marietta passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born in Greene, NY son of Johanna Eddy and the late Robert Eddy. He graduated from Horseheads Central High School in 1956, received a Bachelor of Science from State University of NY at Albany where he met his wife of 51 years, Judith Travis. Ray worked for IBM in various management positions for over 30 years which took him from New York to Pennsylvania to Maryland and finally to Georgia. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering with the tax aide program for AARP many years as district manager in addition to helping many friends and family with tax preparation. He also volunteered with Cobb County elections managing several polling locations. He was awarded the Community Leader of the Year in 2001 from the Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County. Ray was also active in the Eddy Family Association and enjoyed keeping in touch with his high school friends through the coordination of class reunions. In his spare time he could be found walking his beloved pugs, Sweet Pea and Buster. He is preceded in death by his father Robert O. Eddy; sister Joyce Liberatore; and son Michael L. Eddy. He is survived by his wife, Judith Travis Eddy; mother Johanna Eddy of Atlanta, GA; daughter Maureen Stephen Dye of Bradenton, FL; daughter Patricia Anthony Srdar of Gainesville, GA; daughter Susan Verner Owenby of Cumming, GA; and daughter Pamela Michael Cleveland of Johns Creek, GA; and 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 4th, 4pm at Holt Road Baptist Church in Marietta, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Humane Society or The Salvation Army.
