Phyllis Marie Winegar

November 5, 1932 — March 31, 2022

Phyllis Marie Winegar (Phyl) of Peachtree Corners, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 31, 2022, at the age of 89.

Phyl was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, in 1932. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Albert L. Winegar, at Camp Offield on Lake Geneva. She was valedictorian of the Beloit Memorial High School Class of 1950. The two were wed in 1953, which began their 67-year adventure together. She was honored as the Top Student in Home Economics at the University of Wisconsin, where she received her B.A. in 1954.

Four children soon came along: Bradford (Stacy) Winegar, Steven (Patti) Winegar and twins, Kathleen (Keith) Johnson and Kristine (Dale) Adkisson. Phyl was a wonderful mother and homemaker. As an exceptional cook, she was well-known for her amazing dinner parties. She had a gift of making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. She was also a life-long active volunteer, especially for a children’s hospital in California and an Alzheimer’s support group (The Gathering) in Texas.

As her husband progressed in his long career, Phyl provided a stable foundation for her family as they made an astounding 15 moves all over the country. She honed her skill for quickly settling her family into new homes and schools. Later, she became the cherished grandmother of 12: Reed (Courtney) Winegar, Ross (Theresa) Winegar, and Chad Winegar; Greg Winegar, Jeff Winegar, and Claire (fiancé Andrew Odle) Winegar; Courtney (Austin) Schneider, Tyler Johnson, and Caroline (fiancé Whit McLeod) Johnson; Kelly (Trent) Pate, Brooke Young, and J.B Young; and great grandmother of 5: Penelope and Phoebe Winegar; Dru and Rawson Schneider; Eloise Pate. Phyl was often described as creative, patient, thoughtful and capable. She loved sharing her talents with her grandchildren.

Throughout their life, Phyl and Al traveled extensively, including all 50 states and 55 countries.

Phyl was predeceased by her husband Albert, her parents Alice and Royal Everill, her brother Royal “Bud” Everill, her sister-in-law Sandra Everill, and her brothers-in-law Richard and Charles Winegar. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Phyl is survived by her brother Charles (Marty) Everill and sister-in-law Deanna Winegar.

A memorial service for Phyl and her husband Al (who passed away during COVID) will be held at Dunwoody United Methodist Church at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF.org) or Dunwoody United Methodist Church (dunwoodyumc.org).
