Phyllis Marie Schmandt

Phyllis Marie Schmandt, 84, passed away on November 20, 2017 at her home in Big Canoe, Georgia following a long battle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s with her husband, Charles K. (Chuck) Schmandt at her side.
Born in San Pedro, California, Phyllis graduated from Santa Barbara High School in Santa Barbara, California in 1951, where she met her High School Sweetheart, Chuck. They were married at The First Presbyterian Church in Santa Barbara on November 3, 1951. She worked as an accountant for Hunt’s China Shop before joining her husband at Ft. Bliss, Texas where she was an administrative assistant for the Commanding Officer of William Beaumont Army Hospital.
Upon returning to Santa Barbara, she and her husband welcomed her daughters Sandra in 1958 and Deirdra in 1960. Her passions included healthcare and community service, working as an administrative assistants to doctors at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to her service in the Junior League in Santa Barbara, California.
She was preceded in her death by her mother, Dorothy (Tillson).Goldschmidt and her father, Alfred G. Goldschmidt. Surviving her are her husband Chuck; two daughters Sandra Diane Schmandt and Deirdra Marie Schmandt Alexander (Jack) and grandchildren, Kayla Diane Schmandt, Dr. Raymond J. Alexander IV (Marie), Thomas K. Alexander, Nicholas J. Alexander and Grace Alexander.
A family Memorial Service is planned for a later date. Gifts may be directed to Georgia Mountain Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, Georgia 30143 in lieu of flowers in her honor.
