Norman F. Roszel

Norman Fitzwilliam Bill Roszel died Sunday, July 24, 2011. His funeral will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 30, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the St. Luke’s Endowment Fund, 435 Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30308.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jane Gatewood Roszel; his son Richard Roszel and daughter-in-law Deborah Wright Roszel; his five grandchildren, Mason, William, Thomas, Andrew and Elizabeth Roszel; his brother, Stephen Roszel of Warrenton, VA, and twelve nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Stephen Samuel Roszel and Rosa Hall Roszel, his brother, Jim, and his sister, Sally.

He was born on April 15, 1927, in Middleburg, VA. He spent his early years in Pennsylvania and Virginia where he graduated from Randolph Macon Academy. He attended college at the University of Virginia and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

As a young man he worked for the federal government in Washington, DC. He then worked for Superior Oil Company in Franklin, LA. He moved to Atlanta in 1955 and spent most of his career in sales. His owned several companies, including a boat business, a furniture refinishing business, and the company from which he retired, Desk and Door Nameplates.

He was an avid woodcarver who enjoyed giving his work to family and friends. He enjoyed camping with friends at R-Ranch in the Mountains. He was a regular member of the Huff and Puff exercise group at Piedmont Hospital, and also a faithful member of St. Luke’s Church for over fifty years.

Though he had many physical challenges throughout his life, he will be remembered best for his engaging smile, positive attitude and great sense of humor. He was a true Virginia gentleman in every sense of the word and will be greatly missed
