Nancy Navey Hargette, 93, of Sandy Springs, GA, passed away on August 25, 2020. Born in Charlotte, NC on July 20, 1927, Nancy was the sixth of seven daughters of the late Richard Lee and Madge Wilkinson Navey. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Paul Hargette, Sr; and 6 sisters, Ferne Lambeth, Eula Kistler, Margaret Conley, Rubye Lloyd, Doris Gibson and Barbara Asbury; daughter-in-law Karen W. Hargette; and grandson, Chuck Purkey.
Nancy grew up in Charlotte, NC. She worked at Warner Brothers Pictures (where she met her future husband Paul) and Eagle Lion Films. Nancy and Paul married in 1946 and began their family in North Carolina, moving to Florida for a short time and eventually settling in Sandy Springs, GA where Nancy lived for 62 years. She was a member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church.
She was resourceful, resilient and frugal, a testament to growing up in a large family during the Great Depression era. Sewing outfits and hemming clothes were familiar tasks. Remaining true to her farm girl roots with an incredible “green thumb”, Nancy enjoyed working in the yard and garden. Gorgeous hydrangeas propagated from her mother’s garden adorned the yard. A prolific vegetable garden over the years helped feed the family and was graciously shared with others. Nancy treasured providing delicious meals for her loved ones and was known for her legendary sandwiches. Quiet times were often spent reading, solving crossword puzzles or tatting.
Nancy, loved by her family, will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She will always be remembered for singing “You Are My Sunshine”.
She is survived by daughter, Nancy H. Purkey (Gene), son, David P. Hargette, Jr., daughters, Pamela H. Sheffield (Brian) and Susan H. Reuland (John); grandchildren, Paul Hargette, Katherine Hargette, Travis Sheffield (Jessica), Trevor Sheffield (Oscar Gomez), Rebecca Place (Ryan) and Nicholas Reuland; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at a later date.
