Mary Crowell Laurence

Mary Crowell Laurence, 92, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026. Born on February 21, 1934, in Pasadena, California, Mary spent much of her childhood in her beloved hometown of Okoboji, Iowa, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Mary went on to attend Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, where she built the foundation for a life defined by warmth, intellect, and devotion to family. She married Roy Laurence, and together they raised four children in the Chicago area, building a home full of faith and lasting tradition.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, and her brother, Thomas Crowell. She is survived by her four children, Charlotte Laurence, Anne (Rick) Trask, Bridget Laurence, and Gregory (Elizabeth) Laurence; her five grandchildren, Maxwell Trask, William (Caroline) Trask, Peter (Abby) Trask, Gretchen Laurence, and Sam Laurence, who lovingly knew her as “Nana”; and her brother, Walter (Mary) Crowell.

In keeping with the gentle way Mary lived and loved, a private service will be held with close family at a later date.
