The Reverend Deacon Marvin Thrasher Murphy, Jr, born 9/11/1935 died at St. Mary’s Hospice on November 21, 2013. Cause of death is Parkinson’s disease and heart failure. He was the only child of Marvin Thrasher Murphy and Frances Harper Murphy. Marvin is the beloved husband of Carol Burney Murphy of Winder, Father of Isabelle Frances Murphy of Forsyth and Marvin Thrasher Murphy, III and wife Holly Christine Murphy of Statesboro. He leaves behind his precious grandchildren Sarah Ashley Cruz and Marvin James Cruz of Forsyth; and Savannah Jordan Murphy, Reagan Isabelle Murphy, Trey William Murphy, and Riley Christine Murphy of Statesboro. Marvin devoted his life to God and teaching. He taught for 34 years of which 33 years were at Tucker High School in Tucker, Ga where he was lovingly known as Dancing Bear. He was a teacher, a coach, and considered teaching his ministry. He served God first as a Methodist Ministerial Student and later in life, being ordained a Deacon in the Anglican Church. His memorial service will be at Holy Cross Anglican church in Loganville, GA at 11 am on November 23, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Holy Cross Anglican Church Memorial Gardens where his ashes will be interred.
