Marsha A Buttram

August 20, 1948 — February 19, 2018

Marsha A. Buttram, 69, died on February 19, 2018, after a heart attack. She chose to be cremated. Marsha was born on August 20, 1948, and graduated in 1966 with honors from Lakeshore High School in College Park, Georgia. She received her Bachelor’s degree in political science from Georgia State University in 1970. Marsha worked for the State of Georgia for several decades in the Governor’s Budget Office as a policy analyst. She served under Governors Jimmy Carter, George Busbee, Joe Frank Harris, and Zell Miller. A lifetime reader, one of Marsha’s other favorite activities was spending time at a cabin in the North Georgia mountains with her friends Tom Haynes, Betsy Berman, Kris Kane, and Cal Gough. In the 1970s, Marsha married Hal Schanker; they were later divorced. For several decades, Marsha lived in a home she purchased on Page Avenue in Atlanta’s Candler Park neighborhood. She later moved from there to Medlock Gardens in Decatur, where she lived for several years before her death. Marsha’s mother, Alice, her father, “Doc”, and her brother, Edward, predeceased her.
