Marilyn Ann Hug

Marilyn Ann Hug, age 81, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017. She was surrounded by her family which was her greatest joy in life. Marilyn will always be remembered for her love and dedication to her husband of 61 years, Dr. Carl C. Hug, Jr., their five children, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and countless friends and family near and far. Her family and friends loved her beyond measure. During the last week of her life, her hospital room was the “place to be.” Every day a new batch of people arrived to love on the spunky little lady whose smile could light up a room. She never lost her sense of humor, and although she did not feel well, she remained kind and cheerful, just as she was throughout her entire life. Never did she complain, and she smiled right up until the end. She was an amazing and strong woman and the closest thing to an angel here on earth.
Besides being a supportive and loving wife and mother, Marilyn also attended daily mass and was a devoted member of the choirs of Corpus Christi (1971-1996) and St. John Neumann (1996-2017) Catholic churches. She was a member, committee chair, and volunteer with the Smoke Rise Morning Glories Garden Club, and one of six women in a friend group called the “Georgia Travelers.” She and Carl enjoyed traveling together, but nothing made them happier and prouder than attending weddings, graduations, dance recitals, baptisms, and other momentous occasions of their grandchildren and great grandchildren. In May 2016, the entire Hug clan (32 members) gathered together in Florida to celebrate Carl and Marilyn’s 80th birthdays and 60th wedding anniversary. It is a memory the entire family will cherish forever.
A celebration of Marilyn’s well-lived life will begin with a family visitation at 10am and Mass at 11am on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 801 Tom Smith Road, Lilburn, Georgia 30047, (770) 923-6633. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (http://www.lls.org/ or P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202) in honor of Erica, Marilyn’s beloved “granddaughter.” Erica is the wife of her grandson, Chris, and the mother of her two precious great granddaughters and was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In her last days, Marilyn was as worried about Erica’s health as she was her own. Nothing would make her happier than to know that contributions would support research that may help Erica in her battle against ALL.
