Marian "Kittye" Louise Cobb

Marian "Kittye" Louise Cobb, 72, was born in Fort Valley, Georgia, to Leonard Cobb Sr. and Marian K. Cobb. From an early age, she loved reading, which was inspired by her late grandmother, Mattie Williams. Books were her constant companion. She excelled academically and graduated from Peach County High School in 1971, where she participated in the Glee Club, Marching Band, and Debate Team.

Afterward, she attended Spelman College, majored in English, and graduated with honors in 1975. At Spelman, she was a member of the English Club and wrote for The Spelman Spotlight newspaper. She developed strong friendships with her Spelman Sisters that continued throughout her life. Starting in 1980, Kittye served on the planning committee for every reunion. She also served on the Scholarship Committee and participated in every fundraising initiative. She was especially excited when she was recognized as a Golden Girl during the May 2025 reunion. She was also a member of the NAASC (National Alumnae Association of Spelman College), Atlanta Chapter.

Shortly after graduation, Kittye secured a position with the City of Atlanta’s Planning and Economic Development department. Initially, she worked as a City Planner and continuously advanced to higher-level positions. In 2011, she retired as a Budget Analyst after 36 years of employment. Kittye continued to engage with her former coworkers by attending monthly luncheons held throughout Metro Atlanta.

She joined The Church of the Incarnation in the early 1980s, where she built lasting friendships with fellow members. She served in many leadership roles, including Junior and Senior Warden, and led the Episcopal Church Women’s group (ECW) for many years. Kittye loved her church and eagerly demonstrated her commitment to serving others.

Kittye traveled nationally and internationally with her Spelman Sisters and her family for many years. She also loved to cook; her travels helped her further develop her culinary skills, which she gleefully shared with her family and friends. Although some recipes did not produce the intended results, her family and friends would eat them anyway. She also enjoyed writing and painting and created several abstract paintings that are displayed in the homes of her friends and family.

Kittye, along with several friends (Patricia Brinson Costen, (friends since 2nd grade), Judy Bryson, Lynette Rosser, Beth Moore, and Kim Weaver), started a Book Club in June 2000 and gathered regularly to discuss books, enjoy delicious meals, and fellowship. She also enjoyed reuniting with her friends from High School during holidays and FVSU homecomings, especially Davine Carter, Carolyn Fleming, and Xavier Ingram. Kittye shared a long and loving relationship with her soulmate, Floyd Ferguson, who preceded her in death in 2018.

Our hearts are broken at the loss of our dear sister, friend, colleague, and confidant. However, we all know that Kittye lived a long and good life! Everyone who encountered her knew she did what she wanted, when she wanted.

Kittye is survived by her sisters, Linda Patterson (Robert), Lorraine Cobb, and Madelene Celestine (Martin), her nieces, Myra King Cobb, Lynette Cobb, Whitley Patterson, and Danica Celestine; her nephews, Aubrey Patterson and William “Little Lenny” Cobb; her goddaughters (Reagan Goldsmith and Mallory Costen); her Spelman sisters, several cousins; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, parents, and her brother, Leonard “Lenny” Cobb.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11am.
