Marcus H. Taylor

November 24, 1976 — December 26, 2017

Marcus Harrison Taylor, age 41, left this earth and became our guardian angel on Tuesday, December 26 while in the arms of his wife, Elizabeth, in their home in Atlanta.
Marcus was born November 24, 1976 to Pamela and Harold Taylor, of LaGrange, GA. His childhood was spent in LaGrange with his parents and brother Jonathan. He graduated from Troup County High School in 1995 where he was a varsity wrestler for one of the top teams in the state. Marcus’ path led him to Georgia Tech where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Marcus was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and will forever be a part of that brotherhood. After graduation, he worked for Clark Construction and helped build the National Museum of the American Indian on the Washington, D.C. Mall. Marcus spent the last 13 years working for JE Dunn Construction where he made a giant impact as a leader and was recognized as an inspiring person that had a passion for mentoring and coaching others. The Marcus Taylor Inspiration Award will forever bear his name and be given to the most inspiring employee each year. He was the recipient of the 2017 award. Marcus also had a passion for endurance sports and being outdoors. He spent countless hours with his crew running and biking all over the country and as a result formed many incredible friendships and bonds.
Marcus strongly believed that being a Christian starts with building a personal relationship with God, and like all relationships you must invest time to learn and understand in order to grow. Marcus did just that and in 2015, in front of over 200 friends and family, he was baptized at Buckhead Church and declared Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Marcus said he could rest comfortably knowing that God is for him and he is part of His masterplan. He believed that doing the next right thing, while focused on what’s most important, will create an atmosphere where the best is brought out in everyone around you. Marcus truly made this world a better place. Matthew 22:37-40, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the laws and the prophets.” Marcus believed this was the most important component to finding joy and living life well.
On June 24, 2017 Marcus married his soulmate Elizabeth. Marcus and Elizabeth began their relationship on March 10, 2016 and lived a lifetime of experiences and memories together. They were true soulmates and both firmly believed that God crossed their paths at exactly the right moment and they were meant to be together from the moment they met. They walked through life hand-in-hand, as one, every step of the way and remembered to love every single day. Together they loved traveling, being with family and friends, cooking, dancing together, spending time outdoors, waterfalls, sunsets and making each other laugh. He will also be missed by his companion Logo, Marcus and Elizabeth’s dog.
Marcus was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents: Vern and Chris Cutler (Springfield, GA) and his Paternal Grandfather Jack Taylor (Jesup, GA)
Marcus is survived by: his Wife Elizabeth Taylor, Parents Pamela and Harold Taylor (LaGrange, GA), Brother Jonathan and Ginger Taylor (LaGrange, GA), Grandmother Minnie A. Taylor (Jesup, GA), In-laws Mark and Maureen McKiernan (Birchwood, MN), Sister and Brother-in-law Colleen and Matt Christianson (Hugo, MN). Nephew and Nieces; Hayden and Ava Taylor and Addison Christianson; many Aunts and Uncles: Danny Cutler (Merry Ann), Gene Cutler (Kitty), Glenn Taylor (Terri), Pat Malone (Emmit), Rod Taylor (Polly) and Rhonda Sells (Allen) and many special cousins.
In Marcus’s words, “The journey I’m on has brought me to a place I could never have imagined as I continue this fight worth fighting, with a life worth living, in pursuit of a life well lived. I love my life and while welcoming a reprieve from the status quo of cancer, I would not sacrifice the experience, the depth of relationships or the understanding of how life is meant to be lived for a different set of circumstances. Life’s a trip.” Marcus showed us all what it means to live well with no regrets, how to positively impact others and how to Eat the Elephant one bite at a time.
Memorial Service will be held on January 4, 2018 at 1:00 at Buckhead Church: 3336 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30326.
