Luther Wendell Webb

March 15, 1945 — May 29, 2023

Luther Wendell Webb, 78, died on Monday, May 29, 2023, at his home in Woodstock, Georgia, due to a long battle of pulmonary hypertension. Wendell was born on March 15, 1945, to Lois and L. A. Webb in Hahira, Georgia. Wendell married Mary Ann Roberts on May 31, 1980 in Millen, Georgia.

He is remembered by his wife, Mary Ann Webb; 3 sons, Jason Webb (Sarah) from Jacksonville, Florida, Travis Webb (Brittany) from McKinney, Texas, Logan Webb from Douglasville, Georgia; a daughter Caitlin Webb from Atlanta, Georgia; 3 granddaughters, McKenna and Avery Arnold and Saylor Webb from McKinney, Texas; a sister Jane Webb from Atlanta, Georgia; a brother Charles (Gloria) from Athens, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Wendell is preceded in death by his parents, Lois and L. A. Webb and his sister Beverly Webb Bernardi.

Wendell moved from Hahira at a young age, and he lived in Brookhaven, Georgia until he graduated from Cross Keys High School. He spent 14 years in the U. S. Air Force where he served in Vietnam before spending many years working in the camera industry for Minolta and Vivitar. He spent several years photographing the Atlanta Hawks, and his last job was a wedding photographer. While he loved taking pictures of sports and countryside landscapes, his true love was sports. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons, and he had a true dislike for the New York Mets and the New Orleans Saints. He and his longtime friend, Butch Gay, had many trips going to spring training for the Braves and following them to various baseball parks. He was often accused of having all of his bucket list items involving sports.

Wendell was especially known for his humor, dry wit and practical jokes, and he could tell a story like no other. He was known by friends and relatives for corny “dad” jokes, and he would send those on a regular basis to anyone who would allow. He loved western movies and books, and he had read all of the Louis L’Amour series. Most of all he will be remembered for being a loyal and generous father, husband, brother and friend.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 15 at his home (447 Springfield Drive, Woodstock, Georgia) 2:00-4:00PM.
