Lucius Byron (L.B.) Dinsmore, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, after facing cancer with remarkable courage, strength, and dignity.

Born in Alpharetta, Georgia, on January 26, 1942, L.B. spent a lifetime investing in the people, places, and pastimes that mattered most to him. As a young man, he served three years in the United States Navy before returning home and beginning the next chapter of his life. Thoughtful and meticulous by nature, he also possessed a famously quick wit and an incredible sense of humor, often amusing himself just as much as everyone around him.

At the center of L.B.'s life was Cheryl, his wife and best friend of 59½ years. The two met while working at Republic Steel and went on to build a life rooted in love, loyalty, laughter, and the simple pleasure of enjoying each other's company. Through nearly six decades together, they remained committed to their weekly dates and treasured trips to the beach and mountains whenever they could get away. Cheryl especially loved the way L.B.'s eyes sparkled when he smiled - and perhaps even more when he was laughing at one of his own jokes. Whether they were off on an adventure or simply spending an ordinary day together, they genuinely loved being side by side.

A voracious reader and lifelong lover of history, L.B. was rarely far from a good book. His appreciation for reading extended well beyond his own bookshelves. He was a steadfast supporter of local libraries and played an important role in bringing the Milton Library to its current location. The library was built on property once belonging to his uncle and aunt, T.R. and Imogene Dinsmore, creating a particularly meaningful connection between L.B.'s family history and his belief in the importance of libraries within a community.

When he wasn't reading, L.B. could often be found outdoors. He found great satisfaction in gardening and yard work, thoughtfully creating peaceful sanctuaries around his home for his family to enjoy. And when the work was finished, he was happy to catch a good game on tv - especially when the Atlanta Braves or Atlanta Falcons were playing.

His faith was a deeply important part of his life. L.B. found tremendous joy and fellowship among the friends in his Tuesday men's Bible study at Roswell Presbyterian Church, where he held an unofficial title of “Minister of Cookies”, earned through his faithful habit of making sure the group never gathered without something sweet to share.

L.B. had a true servant's heart and spent his life quietly caring for and supporting family and friends. If someone he loved needed help, L.B. was there, because taking care of his people was simply who he was.

L.B. is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Dinsmore; son, Timothy Dinsmore, and his wife, Michelle; daughter, Elaine Patankar, and her husband, Gautam; grandchildren, Laurel Smith, Brooke Patankar, and Bryanna King and her husband, Christian; great-grandson, Easton King; and an extended family of relatives and friends who will carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena Runell Dinsmore and Lucius Byron Dinsmore, Sr.; and his brothers, James Dinsmore and Fred Dinsmore.

A service celebrating L.B.'s life will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at Roswell Presbyterian Church in Roswell, Georgia.
