Joseph Bishop Crowe, a longtime Atlanta real estate broker and devoted husband, father and grandfather, died on June 4, 2021. He was 77.
A native of Cartersville, Georgia, Joe was born on Oct. 22, 1943 to Joseph Bradley Crowe and Laurene Bishop Crowe. A standout student, he came to Atlanta to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning a degree in industrial management in 1965. As a Yellow Jacket, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He also served six years in the Air Force Reserves.
Joe embarked on a successful career in commercial real estate and later shifted to residential real estate through a partnership with his wife Michael at Dorsey Alston Realtors. Their teamwork was an extension of a loving 47-year marriage that welcomed him into a boisterous family of 5 sisters; he was regularly found in the midst of a lively conversation with a brother-in-law, nephew or niece — always a Southern gentleman.
Joe’s devotion to his family, to Michael, and as the father of two daughters and three granddaughters, was extraordinary and impossible to overstate. From the moment his daughters were born, his commitment to them was manifested in selfless acts and immense pride demonstrated from the family dinner table to the Marist School stands – supporting his daughters both in their playing days, and as they became coaches of Marist’s basketball and lacrosse teams. He almost never missed a game.
Joe was an active community volunteer and especially devoted to Malachi’s Storehouse, an outreach ministry of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church dedicated to addressing food insecurity in metro Atlanta, providing food and clothing for those in need of emergency support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Laura Kathryn Cartwright and his first wife, Claire Bindewald Crowe. He is survived by his wife Michael, daughters Kelly Crowe Mandy and Katie Crowe, son-in-law Scott Mandy, granddaughters Kayla Mandy, Scarlett Mandy and Alexandra Mandy, as well as two generations of adoring nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at St Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Dunwoody on Saturday, June 12th at 11:00 a.m. Masks & registration for funeral service are required. Register at bit.ly/JoeCrowe. The family will receive condolences on Friday evening, June 11th at Marist School between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
