John Taylor Tolbert

John Taylor “J. T.” Tolbert, 97, died Friday, April 9, 2010, at Hearthstone of Presbyterian Village in Austell, GA. where he had resided for the past 2 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Lou. Born on February 26, 1913, in Atlanta, GA., he was the son of James Hinton and Connie Henson Tolbert. He graduated from Tech High School in 1931 and began his 64 year profession with the National Library Bindery Company of Georgia. He retired as president in 1995 at the age of 82. J. T. was a member of the Rotary Club of Buckhead, serving as president from 1973-74 and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was past president 1956-57and honorary life member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #78, formerly #1635. As a member of the Riverbend Gun Club he was an avid skeet shooter. He served as elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and more recently was a member of Roswell Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Constance and Linwood Swain of Marietta, GA., Vicki and David Rosenquist of Hartwell, GA., grandson Taylor and Kelley Swain and step-great-grandson John Brooks Akins of Valdosta, GA., step-grandson Ben Rosenquist of Roswell, GA., step-sons Scott and Linda Bennett of St. Augustine, FL., Dale and Gail Bennett of Dahlonega, GA., step-daughters Nancy Bennett and Sheryl Exley of Alpharetta, GA., step-granddaughter Brandy Bennett of Lawrenceville, GA., step-grandson Dale Bennett, Jr. of Dahlonega, GA., and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Roswell Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 14, at 1:00 p.m. followed by the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the historical sanctuary with Rev. Lyndsay Slocum and Elder Raymond Edward Cagle officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the Caring Hands Fund c/o Presbyterian Homes of GA., 3675 Crestwood Parkway, Suite 370, Duluth, GA. 30096 or Thornwell Home for Children, P. O. Box 60, Clinton, S. C. 29325. The body was cremated by Cremation Society of Georgia 404- 355-7627.
