John Hindsman Haines

October 23, 1927 — April 7, 2020

Our beloved father, John Hindsman Haines, age 92, of Loganville and longtime resident of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday April 7, 2020 at Eastside Medical Center in Snellville.

He was born October 23, 1927 in Sharpsburg GA. He graduated from North Georgia Military College in Dahlonega, GA as a 2nd Lieutenant and after the end of WWII served duty in Guam and Iwo Jima supervising disinterment of GI’s return to stateside for burial and later in Japan helping with restoration processes.

Returning to Atlanta after honorable discharge, he earned a bachelor’s degree at Georgia State University where he met his wife of 67 years Mary Anne Williamson Haines. His career included work at Lockheed, owner of an insurance agency and for the last 25 years of his career an accountant with EK Williams Co. in Atlanta.

A man of Christian faith, he was a member of Loganville First United Methodist Church and former member of Canon United Methodist Church in Snellville. He loved sports and was an avid fan of Atlanta Braves, Falcons and Georgia Bulldog football, rarely missing games on TV.

John was predeceased by his wife, Mary Anne. He is survived by son John Edward Haines and wife Vickie, and sons James Phillip Haines, Alan Howard Haines, Robert William Haines, eight grand-daughters, three great grand-daughters and five great-grand sons.

Due to current conditions, a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family request any donations be made to the American Heart Association.
