In Loving Memory of John Lawton Hager
John Lawton Hager passed away from Alzheimer’s at the age of 75 on May 11, 2022. He passed away peacefully at his home in Doraville, GA with his daughters and family by his side.
John Hager is survived by his daughter, Cathy Hager Cole, Son in Law, Jonathan Cole, daughter, Lisa Hager, Son in Law, Stephen Gurrola, and his grandchildren John Hager-Gurrola, Olivia Gurrola, Aubrey Cole, and Aiden Cole.
He is preceded in death by his Wife, Sharon Hager, who passed away at the end of 2020, Parents, John and Mildred Hager, and his beloved sister, Barbara and Brother, Richard.
John Hager was born on April 25, 1947, In New Jersey. He Graduated High School from Scotch Plains High School in 1965. He then attended college at Middle Tenn. State, which is where he met his wife of 47 years, Sharon. He graduated in 1970. He also received his Master’s in History from Austin Peay State University.
John proudly served his country in the U.S Army from August 1, 1969 – September 1, 1980, during which time he bravely fought for his country in the Vietnam War. He was also stationed in Germany and served as a Liaison Officer at the Embassy. John retired as a Captain in the US Army in 1980. He then joined the Army Reserves until he retired from the Reserves in 1989.
John married Sharon Boyers on April 28, 1973, and they had 2 daughters. After he retired from the Army, he moved his family from Tenn. to Atlanta to start his career in Human Resources. He worked as a Human Resource Consultant for Georgia Pacific for many years. He briefly started his own business The Lawton Group, However, he was offered a great position at Georgia Gulf, which is where he worked until he retired after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s
John loved being outdoors, he enjoyed running, or reading a good book by a lake or ocean. He was very good at playing Pool and played with a few leagues. He loved riding his motorcycle. He loved spending time with his family and friends. John was always the life of the party; He was always laughing, and he loved to make others laugh.
He will be missed greatly and never forgotten
There will be a Celebration of Life for John on Sunday 7/10/2022
