Joan Elizabeth Curran

June 21, 1922 — April 12, 2023

Joan Elizabeth (Pomeroy) Curran departed this life on April 14, 2023. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on June 21, 1921, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene ‘Gene’ Curran and parents, Bard and Katherine Pomeroy. She leaves behind her children, Michael Curran (Michele) and Martha Kemp (Carl), grandchildren Maygan Lanigan, Christine Curran Pearson, Chase Branham and Kevin Kemp and several great grandchildren.

Joan played basketball in Middleton High School, Michigan and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She attended Michigan State University where she was a member of the choir. She transferred to University of Cincinnati for her senior year and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.

Joan and Gene moved their family to Georgia in 1964. They joined Dunwoody United Methodist church shortly after arriving. Joan was an active member for nearly 60 years. She served in a leadership role in prayer ministry and was a devoted member of her Sunday school class, the Interpreters. Joan volunteered in many church-sponsored activities, including Habitat for Humanity and the Atlanta Food Bank.

Joan and Gene joined Dunwoody Country Club in the 1970’s. They played golf together, with friends and on competitive teams, winning several trophies. Between the two, Joan had sole hole-in-one bragging rights. They travelled for years with the Georgia Senior’s and played at major courses throughout the U.S.

Joan had a loving heart and always a kind and encouraging word to say. She was a bright light in the lives of her family and friends.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
