Jeanne Kay Wright

June 18, 1924 — November 25, 2022

Jeanne Brown Wright, age 98, died on Friday, November 25th, 2022 at Holbrook of Decatur
Senior Living. She was born on June 18, 1924 in St. Clairsville, Ohio to Harry and Wilma Brown.
She had one older brother Charles (Chuck). She was blessed with a sunny, happy disposition
and often laughed and said she loved to join clubs when she was young, especially if she got to
be club president. In 1942, she left Ohio to attend nursing school at Philadelphia General
Hospital in Pennsylvania. While attending school she met Samuel Martin Wright, MD whom she
married on March 17, 1946. After living in San Antonio, Texas while her husband attended basic
training, he left for Japan, serving as a medical battalion surgeon. She joined him in 1948. On
their return in 1949, they moved to Rochester, Minnesota where Dr. Wright completed his
medical residency in pediatrics. They moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where he opened a
pediatric practice and they raised two daughters, Deborah (Deb) and Deirdre (Dee). They later
moved to Charleston, SC and then to Atlanta, Georgia where Dr. Wright completed a second
residency in rehabilitation medicine. Mrs. Wright always said that life was an adventure with
Dr. Wright. She had never traveled before she started nursing school, but she said that she
learned to love each new adventure and move. They were married 73 years and lived a long
and happy life together. She was known for her sweet nature, wonderful smile, and kindness to
others. She became an avid fan of University of North Carolina basketball, where several
generations of family members attended college. Jeanne was quite adept at sewing, a hobby to
which she devoted an entire room of her house. She loved dogs and had a sweet tooth,
particularly for ice cream; in her later years, she would be quite content to have ice cream for
dinner and share it with her canine companions. Besides her two daughters, Mrs. Wright is
survived by two son-in-laws, Tom Bauer and Frank Buttine, three grandchildren – Sam Buttine
(Catherine Buttine), Hillary Bauer, and Becca Bauer (Darren Wenger), three great grandchildren
(Dean and Charlotte Buttine and Owen Wenger) and many friends, who will all miss her dearly.
Remembrances may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, Midtown Assistance Center, or a
charity of choice.
