Jeanette Ruth Browning Schroeder, 92, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away on June 12, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Jeanette was born on October 5, 1930, to Frank and Elizabeth Browning in Scranton, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Central High School in 1948, she received her RN from Moses Taylor Hospital in 1951, and later earned her B.S. in Nursing from Lebanon Valley College in 1980.
In 1952, she married Rev. Paul D. Schroeder, of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. They served United Methodist churches across the Central Pennsylvania Conference, until Paul was appointed to Bethany Village, a United Methodist retirement center. Jeanette worked for the Visiting Nurse Association and for several local hospitals, earned her Nursing Home Administrator’s license in the 1980s and started as the administrator at Epworth Manor, in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, in 1996.
Jeanette was full of love for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1989. She is survived by her sons, David (Amy Guildroy) and Philip (Elizabeth), and four grandchildren, Daniel, Kathryn (Rachel Owens), Elizabeth, and Paul. Jeanette loved to travel and enjoyed seeing the world with her friends and family.
Jeanette retired in 2000 and relocated to Georgia to be closer to her family, later moving to Clairmont Place in Decatur in 2017. She was twice elected to their board of directors. She was a lay delegate to the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. As a minister’s wife, she learned how to make each new place into her home, and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She never met a stranger, and had a gift for getting people to work together to get things done and done well.
Her memorial service will be at Dunwoody United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the LaGrange College School of Nursing or the local church of your choice.
